What are motorized window coverings?
Motorized window coverings are the new way to control various types of shades and blinds in your home or business with a remote. An electronic motor is connected to your window coverings, and you simply press a button on the remote to open or close them. The motors are battery-powered. We offer a system that has rechargeable internal batteries and one that has disposable batteries contained in a tube, depending on your preference. There are also hardwired options for these motors that an electrician can install for you.
What are the benefits of having motorized window coverings?
You never have to touch your shades. This comes in handy for a number of reasons. When you handle your shades less, they are going to last longer and stay clean longer. Since you push a button to lower and raise your shades the decreased contact with your hands helps to keep them clean longer.
You can control your shades from anywhere at anytime. The remote that comes with your shade will control the shade from inside the room, but there also is an app that will allow you to control your shades from literally anywhere in the world. This is a great tool for when our clients are out of town and want to monitor their shades. The app has many other features such as timers, schedules, and much more. Don’ worry if it all sounds too technical for you, our certified installers will help you set up the shades and app control so the process is as easy as possible for you.
What is the cost of motorized window coverings?
Actual costs of motorized window coverings will vary depending on the specs of the job. The type of window covering you are using and the type of motor it requires will impact the price. The number of motors required for your home or office will also determine how many and what kind of remotes you will need. Some applications work better with a remote in each room that has a motorized window covering. There are other applications that allow for one remote to control all the shades. So, the biggest factors in determining the cost of motorized window coverings are the type of motor and how many remotes. Power source will also impact the price if you decide to hard wire the motors.
How often do motorized window coverings need to be serviced?
We have had many clients tell us that they haven’t had to do anything to their motorized window coverings for 5 years. As the years go by, motors are getting better and better and require less maintenance. Even though some customers have said 5 years, we expect that you should be able to go one year before maintenance is required. After one year, batteries can beging to go dead and either have to be recharged or batteries replaced. Most of the units we sell require AA Lithium batteries. Other than changing or recharging the batteries, we haven’t heard about the need for any other maintenance. We’re also happy to offer a 5-year warranty on the motors we install, so you can feel confident in the support you will receive should any issues arise.
How does the process work?
If you are interested in motorization, we encourage clients to come into our showroom in Redlands and see the motors we have on display. You can also browse various shade types and fabrics to understand your options. Our experts will help you with any questions you have every step of the way. Once the shade type and fabric is selected, we will set up an in-home consultation where we will take measurements of all the windows you would like covered. Once we have measurements, we can give you an accurate estimate for the entire job. Once the estimate is approved, a deposit is taken to get the order processed and project started. Time frames for installation vary based on how many windows, their size, the fabric selected and even the time of year. We will discuss everything with you so that you can make the best purchasing decision for your needs.
